DeepL places on the Forbes Cloud 100 list for second year running

Imagine the Olympics for cloud companies, and you’ve got the picture of the Forbes 2024 Cloud 100. A panel of CEOs scrutinizing industry powerhouses on their high-vaulting metrics and their market leadership sprints. So you’ll understand our delight when DeepL was recognized as a Forbes Cloud 100 company for the second year in a row.

Joining the pantheon of OpenAI and Anthropic, we’re honored to be one of the AI leaders transforming technology as we know it. Now all that’s missing is a shiny medal and a trip to Paris.

AI takes the gold

"The past year, our industry has seen a generational step forward in innovation, and with AI leading the charge, we are witnessing one of the most important platform shifts in decades," said Paul Drews, managing partner at Salesforce Ventures, Forbes’ partner in the Cloud 100. "The Cloud 100 list represents the best of the best, and we've never been more excited about what the future holds, not only for the cloud but for the entire technology industry."

DeepL has been developing specialized AI since the dark ages of 2017—well before the current AI wave. Our models are built to understand how people communicate and capture the nuances of language. Unlike general-purpose AI systems, DeepL generates more precise translations with a lower risk of hallucinations and misinformation. And in business communications, that makes all the difference. “At DeepL, we're on a mission to break down language barriers so that every company can operate seamlessly on a global scale with AI,” said Jarek Kutylowski, our CEO and founder. “Being named to the Forbes Cloud 100 list for two years in a row is a testament to DeepL’s steadfast commitment to research and innovation in the Language AI space. It also affirms the significant—and proven—impact that the DeepL platform is having on the way businesses around the world operate and grow.”

Why we’re in the race

What matters most to us at DeepL is helping solve the real-world problem of multilingual communication. That’s why we are so proud to receive this accolade and stay in this race at the cutting edge of AI.

It’s also why we built our next-generation large language model (LLM) and unveiled DeepL for Enterprise. We want to see a world without language barriers, and we believe technology can help build that world.

How does Forbes select the Cloud 100?

The Forbes Cloud 100 is the definitive ranking of the top 100 private cloud companies in the world, published by Forbes in partnership with Bessemer Venture Partners and Salesforce Ventures. The Cloud 100 reviews submissions from hundreds of cloud startups and private companies each year.

Companies are evaluated on four factors: 1. Market leadership (35%) 2. Estimated valuation (30%) 3. Operating metrics (20%) 4. People and culture (15%)

“Across nine years of data, we have yet to see as competitive of a cohort as the 2024 Cloud 100,” said Mary D’Onofrio, partner at Bessemer Venture Partners, which partners with Forbes for the Cloud 100. “Unsurprisingly, AI is now the highest-valued category. We continue to be excited by how AI companies are scaling rapidly, transforming the cloud, and propelling the next wave of growth.”

Let the games begin

This recognition from Forbes is not just a milestone for DeepL. We also see it as an invitation and a challenge to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in Language AI. We are proud to be among the Olympians of this exciting industry, driving innovation that helps people and businesses thrive.
